Multi-millionaire Amparito Lhuillier, who happens to be the mother of Monique whose clientele includes Hollywood stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Stewart, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Katy Perry, is one of the most level-headed and charming dame you’ll ever meet.
In a short interview held at Hola España in Cebu City a few days ago, Bulletin Entertainment asked her the secret behind the success of her marriage to Michel Lhuillier. The two wed in 1964 and had recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
“First is forgiveness, then always love each other,” she said. “We’re not perfect husband and wife – sometimes we commit mistakes – but it is important that we know how to forgive each other.”
Aside from Monique, their union has produced Charles, Michael and Yvette.
During the first few years of their marriage, Amparito kept busy with a dress shop at home. Looking back, the dame thinks it greatly influenced Monique to take art lessons; the better to sketch the clothes she designed for herself. Monique now owns a fashion house based in
Los Angeles, California, as well as another store on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
“I’d always get an offer to be a model (back then) because I really like to dress up and to look good,” Amparito recalled.
“Monique is the one who dresses me up now. My daughter has been doing very well in her chosen career and I’m veryproud of her.”
Amparito revealed Monique designs her dresses and gowns for events but the former always insists that it should not be for free.
“Business is business,” the mother pointed out.
Amparito lauds Monique’s husband, accountant Tom Bugbee.
“Monique needs him because he knows how to deal with money,” she said.
Meanwhile, two of the Philippines’ renowned corporations, Calayan Medical Group and M. Lhuillier Group of Companies had forged a partnership.
“We are very much in-line with Lhuilliers vision of making people happy. We want to be bigger, upgrade our equipments and give people all the best. This is a good partnership,” Lalen Calayan said. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
